ENVIRONMENTAL ARTISTS TO EXHIBIT IN THE HEART OF THE EVERGLADES .

Art and Activism Combine to Help Save the Everglades‏





The Museum of the Everglades will be featuring the art of Venezuelan illustrators and educators Edwin Villasmil and Elba Martinez in the Pauline Reaves Gallery
September 2nd to September 30th, 2009.



Villasmil and Martinez have been researching and documenting
the Everglades since arriving from Venezuela five years ago.
Their exhibit, “Everglades Forever“, features a graphic chronicle
of a magical journey through the Everglades. This husband and
wife team is intent on educating the public about the issues
regarding the fragile ecosystem of the Everglades.

EN EL CORAZON DE LOS EVERGLADES

Arte y activismo combinados para ayudar a preservar los Everglades.

El Museo de los Everglades expondrá la obra artística de los ilustradores y educadores venezolanos Edwin Villasmil y Elba Martínez en la Galería Pauline Reaves, desde el 02 al 30 de Septiembre del 2009.
Villasmil y Martínez han venido investigando y recreando los Everglades desde su llegada de Venezuela en el año 2004.
La exhibición “EVERGLADES PARA SIEMPRE” es una crónica gráfica de un viaje mágico a través del Río de Hierba de Marjory Stoneman Douglas.
Esta pareja con su trabajo busca sensibilizar al público sobre el peligro que se cierne sobre el frágil ecosistema de los Everglades.
Acompañe a los artistas en la inauguración de esta muestra
el Sábado 05 de Septiembre de 1:00 a 3:00 pm.
Se servirán refrescos.
El Museo de los Everglades está situado en el 105 West Broadway Ave. Everglades City .

According to Food & Water Watch, more than 17
million barrels of oil, enough to fuel 1 million cars
for a year, are needed to produce the plastic water
bottles sold in the United States annually .
And about 86 percent of the empty bottles get thrown
into the trash rather than recycled.

barriles de petróleo para abastecer de combustible a un
millón de automóviles durante un año. Con esta misma cantidad
se producen las botellas plásticas de agua que se venden
anualmente en los Estados Unidos . Cerca del 86 % de las
botellas vacias en lugar de reciclarse van directo a la basura.

WHAT A WONDERFUL WORLD

WHAT A WONDERFUL WORLD

On August 16, 1967, Louis Armstrong recorded it in the city
of New York the song "What a Wonderful." This World
original piece by George David Weiss and Bob Thiele, reflects
admiration for a kind of multicolor nature with white clouds,
bright green trees and a rainbow on a clear blue sky.
Superb and spiritual spectacle Armstrong’s voice spread around
the world as Goodwill Ambassador for the UN.
This song inspired an environmental art workshop with Afro-Americans
children in the Nature Center at Crandon Park.
How wonderful this experience was discovering that a good number
of them also knew the song, and performed simultaneously with their
voices and language for deaf people.
That's good to know that "Satchmo" is still present in the wonderful
children's world.

QUE MUNDO TAN MARAVILLOSO


El 16 de Agosto de 1967, Louis Armstrong grabó en la ciudad
de Nueva York la canción “Que Mundo tan Maravilloso”. Esta
pieza original de George David Weiss y Bob Thiele, refleja
admiración ante una naturaleza multicolor de nubes blancas ,
verdes árboles y un luminoso arco iris sobre un limpio cielo azul.
Soberbio y espiritual espectáculo que Armstrong con su voz transmitió
alredededor del planeta como Embajador de Buena Voluntad por las
Naciones Unidas .
Este tema musical inspiró un taller de arte ambiental con niños
afro-americanos en el Centro para la Naturaleza en Crandon Park.
Lo maravilloso de esta experiencia fue descubrir que, un buen número
de ellos, además de conocer la canción, la interpretaron
simultáneamente con sus voces y con el lenguaje para sordomudos.
Que bueno saber que “Satchmo” sigue presente en el maravilloso
mundo infantil.
